The year 2010 for the Salem
Area Historical Society was a full year of activity.
2010 SAHS Plymouth Whaler Hockey Night
38 Memebers and Friends of SAHS attended the
Plymouth Whalers Hockey Game on Saturday, Jan. 16th, which was
a 3-0 victory for the Whalers over the Niagara Ice Dogs. SAHS ran
the Chuck-A-Puck contest at the game and netted $270 for its general fund.
2010 SAHS January Meeting
In January, our monthly meeting on the fourth Wednesday
of the month, January 27th, was held at the Salem Township Hall. This was a
business meeting to review our 2009 financial statement, current financial
position, and the 2010 budget. Through many generous donations and your
memberships, the society now has a growing cash reserve.
2010 SAHS Annual Dinner/Auction
Salem Area Historical Society held its
annual DINNER/AUCTION on Saturday, February
13, 2010 at the Fox Hills Golden Fox Clubhouse. There were 69 attendees
and 118 Auction Items. They enjoyed
a wonderful buffet banquet, which was followed by a short business
meeting. The election slate of offices for 2010 was presented and
accepted. The silent and live auctions were the last agenda
items. The auction committee did a great job in gathering the
donations. Thanks to
all who helped SAHS raise over $4,000 during this event. Please support

2010 SAHS Election Dinner
The March 24th SAHS Meeting was our annual
Pot-Luck Dinner and Election. Our election results were:

April Meeting
SAHS held its April meeting on Wednesday, the 28th, at the Jarvis
Stone School.
After a
brief business meeting, the attendees listened to Kathleen Marcaccio’s
"Gone with Wind" presentation and viewed her extensive memorabilia
collection.
May Meeting
SAHS held its May meeting on Wednesday, the 26th, at the Jarvis
Stone School, which included
a brief business meeting and a "Washtenaw Mania" presentation by
Susan Nenadic about the settlers of Washtenaw County from 1820 to 1837.
Flag Day
SAHS participated in the Salem Flag Day Parade
on Saturday, June 5th. It is small town America at its best. Go to Salem

Historical Vehicle Show
& Ride
SAHS held its Historical Vehicle Show & Ride
on Sunday, Aug. 15th. A small group of car owners and SAHS
members enjoyed the day and took a ride on the roads of Salem Township. Unfortunately,
a slight drizzle developed during the drive, but it did not dampen the enjoyment.

Annual Barn Dance
The SAHS Annual Barn Dance was held at the Three Cedars Farm (7897 Six Mile Rd. at Curtis Rd.
Northville, MI
48168) on September 10th. The dance was attended by 236, which is the largest
yet. Picks 'N' Sticks provided the live music and the caller. Once
again, everyone had a wonderful time. Go to our Annual Barn Dance Page for more information
including photos. SAHS extends a special THANK YOU to Gary Whittaker and
his staff at Three Cedars Farm for generously donating their facility and time
for the use of the Barn Dance. Their barn is an excellent venue for our

attitude.

SAHS held its
annual Country Fair and Flea Market at the Jarvis-Stone
School site on September 18th.
At times it was sunny, cloudy and
raining, but there were more vendors and customers than
at our first two events. THANK YOU to the Fair Committee (Sue
DiMilia, Pat Hatala, JoAnn Heyl & Marcia Van Fossen) and all of the
volunteers and donors.
Flu Immunization Clinic
On October 21st
from 5 PM to 7 PM, SAHS once again hosted a Flu Immunization Clinic at the Jarvis-Stone School. It was administrated
by the Washtenaw County Public Health Department. Clinic was open to all.

Meeting
SAHS
held its October Meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 27th at 7:30 PM at the Jarvis Stone
School. After the
business meeting, SAHS Member, Wally Donoghue presented the "History of
Music Boxes" including 5 examples from his collection along with a video
of 10 more of his music boxes.
Annual SAHS Christmas Party
SAHS held its Annual Christmas
Party on Sunday, December 5, 2010 at Cindy and Mike Brautigan's home. The
honoree for 2010 was Don Riddering.

It was a
great afternoon of friendship.
Sad News – Don
Riddering
Founding SAHS Member, long time serving SAHS President and
SAHS President Emeritus, Don Riddering died in his sleep on Monday, December 6th.
Don was diagnosed with ALS in 2010. He and Ali had been residing in Ionia
to be near their daughter. More information on Don is available on the SAHS Memorial Page.
